HARTING.

FOOT BALL MATCH.—On December 26th the boys of the National School, Harting, were in considerable excitement, when about one o’clock a waggon from Stedham House, headed by a magnificent cart horse, the property of Capt. Sandiman, arrived at our main street, bringing ten boys from Liss, to a foot ball match. The play was in the Culver’s field, belonging to Mr Wild, and a large number of persons assembled to witness the game, and to keep the ball within the ropes. After a very plucky game, seven goals had been scored in the hour for Harting, and seven for Liss, the match thus resulting in a tie. The play of James Chitty (captain), Albon Watts, John Blackmore, and Charley Pescod for Harting was very good, as was that of Bird Aubrey (captain, Thomas and Richard Aubrey, J. Fryer, Gale, and Jackson on the part of Liss. The umpires were J. L Postlethwaite, Esq., jun., and R Sandiman, Esq., jun. The day was very fine and bright, and a prettier scene could not well have been witnessed.
