PETERSFIELD.

CATTLE, SHEEP, AND HORSE FAIR.—Our annual cattle, sheep, and horse fair was held on Saturday, being the 47th anniversary of its establishment, and which unfortunately as regards the former, proved a failure from the evils of the cattle plague, and its attendant consequences, although it is gratifying to state our surrounding districts have providentially escaped its destructive ravages. About the average number of sheep were penned. Ewes realized from 45s. to 53s. Wethers from 42s. to 55s. Lambs from 36s. to 45s. Mr. G. H. Seward, Harting, refused 56s. for a lot of lambs, and some extra cross breeds realized high prices. We may add that not many remained unsold at the close of the fair. The number of horses were a full average, but inferior in quality, and not much business was transacted. The pleasure fair was fully attended, and imparted a degree of enjoyment not often experienced at this fair.
