PETERSFIELD.

A PERSEVERING TOM TIT.—Last year a tom tit had a fancy to build its nest in the letter-box at Broadbush Villa, but being served with an un-ceremonious visit of ejectment by mischievous boys, she was compelled to take her departure. Nothing daunted, she made a second attempt, with a like unhappy result. This year, however, with a perseverance worthy of imitation by superior bipeds, she made a third essay, and has met with the success she merited. The nest when finished duly became the depository of ten eggs, all of which were hatched on Saturday last. The bird which chose so apparently uncongenial a domicile has during the process of incubation exhibited an amount of fearlessness almost incredible, the letters and newspapers which daily invaded her chosen home never once driving her from her maternal duties.
