PETERSFIELD

A ROBIN AND THE GAS METER. —Amongst the many curious and strange places in which the feathered race are wont to select for the purpose of incubation, we may add another of robin-red breast. As the Inspector of Gas and his assistant were on their round for the purpose of taking the late quarterly consumption of gas, they were surprised to find, on approaching the meter upon the premises of Mr. Stone, in the Square, a robin's nest, built upon the same, and placed so as almost to interfere with the opening of the door, with the old bird closely sitting in confident security upon his eggs as to retain undisturbed possession of her nest during the time of her visitor's inspection.
