PETERSFIELD
Agent—Mr. G. DUPLOCK
ACCIDENT TO THE HON. J. J. CARNEGIE.—We are extremely sorry to learn that a somewhat serious accident, occurred to this gentleman on Wednesday last. He was out shooting with a party of gentlemen at Ditcham-park, the residence of W. Green, Esq., when a stray shot from one of the party struck his left eye, inflicting a severe wound and causing a considerable flow of blood. The hon. gentleman was immediately conveyed home, and Mr. Cross, of the firm of Whicher & Cross, of this town, was quickly in attendance. The shot struck the lower part of the cornea just below the iris, and it is feared penetrated the substance and formed a lodgment there. We are glad to hear that under the skilful treatment of Mr. Cross he is going on favourably, but serious apprehensions are entertained that the sight is permanently destroyed.
