PETERSFIELD.
CHURCHER’S COLLEGE.
The usual breaking up entertainment came off on Monday and Tuesday evenings last, by permission of the head master, Mr. Dusautoy, before a numerous and highly respectable attendance, composed of the clergy and gentry of the town and neighbourhood, amongst whom we noticed J. Bonham Carter, Esq., M.P., (one of the trustees of the college) and family; as also the parents of the pupils, with many of the tradesmen. The school room was most tastefully decorated with festoons of evergreens and artificial flowers, surrounding various appropriately illuminated devices, and mottos being beautifully lighted up with numbers of Chines lanterns, and variegated lamps, altogether presenting a charming scene, and casting a subdued light around. At the west end was erected a stage, with all the necessary scenery to form a complete minor theatre; being exceedingly well painted, and executed throughout by the indefatigable assistant master (on this occasion stage manager) and the pupils under his care. We subjoin a programme of the performances, and we may add that where all did so well, it would be invidious to particularize.
