Mr. B. CARTER, M.P., presented a memorial from farmers, graziers, and breeders of stock in the Petersfield petty sessional division, drawing the attention of the court to the difficulty and inconvenience attending the obtaining of movement licenses, in consequence of there being no member of the divisional committee within a reasonable distance of Petersfield, the centre and market town of the said division; that much time is lost in running from one parish to another to obtain the signature of a member of the divisional committee; and that the sale of stock is often lost in consequence of the difficulty of obtaining a licence at short notice. They, therefore, suggested that as there is no person resident in Petersfield, with the requisite qualification, the court should appoint Mr. Joseph Soames, of Petersfield, a member of the said committee. The memorial was signed by 37 farmers and graziers.
The resolution was then agreed to.
