PETERSFIELD v. ALTON

On Thursday last, June 22, a very interesting match was played at Alton. The batting of Mr. Benn was very good, scoring fifty runs, and causing many changes to be made in the bowling. The catering of host Madgwick, of the Swan, was voted excellent. Petersfield, on going in, sent Seward and Chalcraft, to the bowling of Benn and Chalcraft, and right well they did their duty, the former scoring 12, whilst the latter made 30 runs, including many splendid hits, which sent the leather-hunters in all directions—out of all bounds, and only giving one chance. The committee intend to present him with a well-deserved new bat. Score:—
