Hampshire Independent — Wednesday 6 July 1864

FUNERAL OF AN ODDFELLOW.—The funeral of P.P.G.M. James Head, of the Pride of the Valley lodge, took place on Sunday. The deceased brother was much respected by the members of the lodge to which he belonged, about 45 of the officers and brothers attended, together with several of the tradesmen of the town. The illness of the deceased was of short duration, for only on the Wednesday before his death he seemed in good health, and inviting friends to dine at the anniversary dinner that was held here on June 27th. Amongst the number he asked was our worthy and esteemed rector, the Rev. J. M. Sumner, who kindly accepted the invitation, little thinking, either of them, that he who so kindly invited others would not be there himself, but lying on a death-bed, as he died on the 28th of June, leaving behind a wife and family of six children.
