EAST MEON

The East Meon annual distribution of women’s clothing took place in the vestry room of the parish church on the 1st inst. under the kind superintendence of Mr. and Miss Lucretia Kemp, and amongst those present were Mrs. Bonham-Carter, of Adhurst St. Mary’s, Petersfield, and other ladies. This clothing club has been established for many years, and it is pleasing to state that the worthy vicar (the Rev. T. C. Kemp) and his family take a deep interest in the poor, but owing to Miss Kemp being an invalid for many years, she was not able to attend on this occasion. The children of the National School, conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Forder, had also their distribution on Monday. By the kind benevolence of Mrs. Forbes, of Bereleigh House, who was present, tickets were issued for clothing to the parents of the children, who assembled at the schools to receive them. The parents of the children pay a trifle weekly towards the club, and at the end of the year this lady adds an amount to their payments, which makes it somewhat considerable at the year’s end.
