PETEBSFIELD, Saturday, April 3,
VESTRY MEETING.— The Easter vestry was held on Monday, the Rector, the Rev. J. M. Sumner, presiding. On account of the passing of the recent Act abolishing church rates, a discussion arose as to the best means of raising the funds required, the Rev. Chairman remarking that there were four ways in which it might be, namely, by making an optional rate, by a voluntary subscription, by an offertory, or by pew rents. It was unanimously resolved to adopt the first alterna- tive, and a rate of 4d. in the pound was agreed to. Mr. Nichols was elected churchwarden for the parish, and the Rector appointed Mr. Duplock as his warden. Messrs. Atkinson and EIkington were re-elected members of the Burial Board, and Mr. Cross elected in the room of Mr. Newman. A vote of thanks to the Rev. Chairman closed the proceedings.
