HAMPSHIRE MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT.—From Dodd’s Parliamentary Guide for 1865 we extract the following facts:—

     Beach, William Wither Bramston. (Hants, North). Only s. of William Beach, Esq., of Oakley Hall, Hants, and Keevil House, Wilts (who is uncle of Sir Michael Hicks Beach, bart.), by Jane Henrietta, d. of John Browne, Esq., of Salperton, co. Gloucester. B. 1826; m. 1857, Caroline Chichester, young d. of the late Col. Augustus Cleveland, Tapley Park, North Devon. Educated at Eton, and at Christ Church, Oxford, where he graduated B.A. 1849, and M.A. subsequently. A Magistrate; appointed Capt. in the Hants Yeomanry Cavalry 1858. Patron of two livings. A Conservative; considers the malt-tax has the first claim in the reduction of taxation. First elected for Hants North, April 1857.—Carlton Club; Oakley Hall, Basingstoke, Hants.

     Sclater-Booth, George. (Hants, North). Eld s. of William Lutley Sclater, Esq., of Hoddington House, Hants, by Anne Maria, d. of the late William Bowyer, Esq. B. in London, 1826; m. 1857, Lydia Caroline, only daughter of the late Major George Birch, of Clare Park, Hants, H.E.I.C.S. Educated at Winchester, where he obtained the gold medal for Latin verse, 1844, and Balliol College, Oxford, where he was 2nd class in Classics, 1847, and graduated M.A. 1848. Called to the bar 1851. Assumed the name of Booth by Royal licence, 1857, in addition to his patronymic. A magistrate for Hants, and a Capt. in the Hants Yeomanry Cavalry. A Conservative; ‟without sacrificing his independence,” prepared to follow the leadership of Lord Derby, whose Reform Bill he supported; in favour of the reduction of the malt duty; is opposed to the ‟unconditional abolition” of church-rates.      Carter, John Bonham. (Winchester). S. of the late John Bonham Carter, Esq., M.P. for Portsmouth from 1816 till his death in 1838. B. at Portsmouth 1817; m. 1st, 1848, Laura Maria, youngest d. of George Thomas Nicholson, Esq., of Waverley Abbey, Surrey (she died Jan. 1862); 2ndly, 1864, Mary, eld. d. of the Right Hon. Sir Francis Thornhill Baring, bart., M.P. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. A Magistrate for Hants. Appointed Dep.-Lieut. of Hants 1848. A Liberal; is in favour of extension of the franchise, especially in counties. First returned for Winchester in 1847. —9, Suffolk-st.
