HIGHWAY DISTRICTS
In accordance with notice given by five justices (Viscount Eversley and four others), a proposal was made to the court to add the parishes of East Titherly, East and West Buckholt, Frenchmoor, and Crown farm to the Stockbridge district.
There was also a proposal made that the parishes of Headley and Kingsley, now forming part of Alton district, and the parish of Bramshott, now attached to Petersfield, should be taken therefrom and formed into a district by themselves.
Sir A. K. Macdonald presented a petition from ninety-nine landowners in the proposed new district in favour of the change, and urged that the acreage thus set forth would be greater than many of the unions in the county now forming highway districts; for instance, Catherington, Hursley, and others.
The Chairman said nothing final could be done at this sessions. There might be a provisional order, but he thought these questions ought to be referred to a special committee, and, in the event of such a committee being in favour of them, that they should be confirmed at the subsequent sessions. As to Stockbridge, some parishes bad been omitted by mistake, and in one parish there were no roads at all.
The Rev. W. Blunt spoke in favour of appointing a special committee.
Mr. Mulcock, in reference to Headley, said the roads were there in a bad state and required supervision.
The committee was then named and appointed.
