BOTLEY.—THE RIFLE BATTALION AT THE REVIEW. - The members comprising the 3rd Administrative Battalion of Hants Rifle Volunteers, commander Capt. W. Warner, assisted by Capt. and Adjutant Cook—Col. Conran being abroad —mustered as follows on Monday, at Brighton:—Farehan corps (7th Hants) we give under the Fareham heading. Botley, Bitterne, and Bishop’s Waltham (8th Hants) Capt. Thomas Warner and Lieutenant Dennis Clarke, 2 captains, 2 subalterns, 9 sergeants, 3 buglers, and rank and file; Petersfield (12th Hants) Capt. Seward, 1 captain, 1 subaltern, 5 sergeants, and 37 rank and file; Titchfield (17th Hants) Lieutenant Bradshaw, 2 sergeants, and 23 rank and file; Wickham (20th Hants) Lieutenant Carter, 3 sergeants, 1 bugler, and 23 rank and file; Alton (21st Hants) Capt. Coulthard, 2 subalterns, 1 sergeant, 2 buglers, and 27 rank and file; staff 1, making a total of exactly 300. There were also a number of recruits present who it was thought advisable not to take into the ranks. The whole of the men composing the battalion put in a very creditable appearance, and went through the various evolutions in a satisfactory manner. The only drawback to the day’s enjoyment was the long time occupied in the march from the Downs to the enclosure F in consequence of the various divisions being all pushed into the town by one route, whkh caused the street to be blocked up, so that for a long time the men were unable to move forward; also, the tiresome march to, and great delay at Hove station, where the men had to stop two hours before a train could be procured for the return journey. At length the ‟long looked for” made its appearance and slowly moved homewards, at which all arrived safely.
