PETERSFIELD.
A most able and instructive lecture was delivered in the National School Rooms on Tuesday evening, the Rev. E. L. Berthon. on ‟Volcanic Phenomena, including some account of the recent Earthquake in this country, with personal adventures on Mount Vesuvius.” The well-known scientific abilities of the lecturer, together with his happy powers of illustration, rendered the subject most interesting as well as instructive. Additional zest was given to the lecture by a large number of well-executed drawings and models, the former being taken by the rev. gentleman in the neighbourhood of Vesuvius, &c. At the conclusion, a vote of thanks was proposed by the Rector, the Rev. J. M. Sumner, and warmly responded to by an extremely large and delighted audience.
