PARLIAMENTARY CHANGES.
… Petersfield—Mr Nicholson; Sir W. Jolliffe, created Lord Hylton
The number of constituencies which changed their representatives in the year was forty. The Liberals gained six seats—viz., Aberdeenshire, Devonport (two), Bridgwater, Petersfield, and Waterford. The Conservatives won four seats—viz., Brecon, Bridgnorth, Helston, and Sandwich. There is thus a balance of two seats, or four votes, on the side of the Liberals. This, however, is counteracted by the loss of four seats at Lancaster, Totnes, and Reigate, where four Liberal members were unseated for bribery, and whose places have not yet been filled up.
