PETERSFIELD.
PETTY SESSIONS, Tuesday.— Present: Hon. J. J. Carnegie, chairman, J. Waddington, Esq., and Major Briggs.
AN ASSAULT IN THE SQUARE—William Pearce was charged with assaulting Mr. William Neighbour, in the Square, Petersfield, on Whit Monday. Defendant pleaded guilty, and said he was drunk at the time. Fined 10s., costs 9s. 6d., or six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labor.—Defendant was also charged with threatening to do bodily injury to William Gammon. Complainant deposed to having been repeatedly threatened by defendant, and being obliged on several occasions to seek protection of the police. Defendant was bound over in his own recognizance of £20, and a surety of £20, to keep the peace towards complainant and all Her Majesty’s subjects for the space of 12 months.
