PETERSFIELD.]—RAILWAY ACCIDENT.—On Thursday evening, the train which leaves Midhurst at 4.55 for Petersfield accidentally got off the rails near the Elsted Station, a very secluded spot. Fortunately nothing of any consequence occurred beyond the detention of the train, which was for a short time immovable, and there being no electric telegraph communication, prevented the officials on the spot from acting with their usual precision. The indefatigable manager at the Petersfield Junction, Mr. R. Jackson, on hearing of the mishap, took immediate steps for affording accommodation to the public, by having suitable conveyances, &c., at hand. The cause of the accident appears to have been a defect in the rails near Elsted Marsh. The traffic was resumed again on Friday morning as usual.
