PETERSFIELD, NOVEMBER 21.
LECTURE.—An interesting and instructive lecture was delivered in the National Schoolroom on Tuesday evening by our excellent Rector, the Rev. J. M. Sumner, on ‟A week in Spain.” The rev. gentleman gave a most graphic and amusing description of the country, its physical features, the manners and habits of the people, &c., which was greatly enhanced by many stirring anecdotes judiciously interspersed. At the conclusion a vote of thanks, proposed by the Rev. H. Haigh and seconded by Captain Seward, was carried by acclamation. The two large schoolrooms were densely crowded by a large and respectable number of persons, embracing most of the elite of the town and neighbourhood, who seemed highly delighted with the treat afforded if we may judge from the repeated bursts of applause that greeted the lecturer. We have never witnessed such a large number present on any similar occasion.
