PETERSFIELD

SUPPER AT THE CORN EXCHANGE.—On Thursday, at six o’clock, an excellent and bountiful supper, including game, was provided by Mr. Morgan at the Volunteer Arms, when 70 sat down, comprising friends and workmen employed in erecting and completing the building. The secretary, Mr. Soames, filled the chair, and Mr. Dusautoy, of the College, the vice-chair. Among the company assembled were Mr. A. Grain, of the Hampshire Bank, Mr. Holt, surgeon, with Messrs. J. Underdown, J. Harffey, A. Harffey, W. Neighbour, J. Gammon, W. Bailey, &c., &c.; Mr. Salisbury, clerk of the works; Mr. E. Goulder, foreman; Mr. Dallimore, the builder, being unavoidably prevented attending. The usual loyal and other toasts, with sentiment and song, prevailed throughout the meeting in the true spirit of social harmony and conviviality; and the happiness of the assemblage was not a little enhanced on the perfect completion of the building, upon which they had individually rendered assistance to facilitate the comfort in developing the sale of corn, &c., &c., till the fall hours of the night told them to depart, grateful for the good things set before them with the evening’s amusement.
