PETERSFIELD.
Agent—MR. G. DUPLOCK
TESTIMONIAL TO J. SOAMES, ESQ.—The two associations which were formed here and in the adjoining district of Harting last autumn for mutual assurance against loss from the cattle plague have lately been dissolved, owing to the provision made for compensation by the recent act of parliament. Mr. Soames had acted as hon. secretary to both associations, and the members of each have marked their appreciation of his valuable and gratuitous service by presenting him with a piece of plate. That from Petersfield is an elegant silver salver, bearing the following inscription :—‟Presented by the members of the Petersfield Mutual Cattle Assurance Association to Joseph Soames, Esq., as a mark of their esteem and regard, and in recognition of his services as their honorary secretary 15th March, 1866.” The testimonial from Harting is a chaste and handsome silver cake basket, with an inscription similar to the above.
