Hampshire Independent — Saturday 14 May 1864
PETERSFIELD.]— THE INTERMENT OF MR. SAMUEL MlNCHIN—who died on Friday, the 6th inst., took place at the Petersfield Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, and being a member of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, of the ‟Pride of the Valley” Lodge of the Petersfield district, a large number of members met, and followed their departed brother in grave procession, with lodge honours to his last resting place, which had a very imposing effect, in consequence of the superior and respectable manner in which it was conducted. The body was interred by the senior curate of Petersfield, the Rev. Henry Haigh, who performed the service in a very impressive manner, before an immense assemblage of spectators, who expected to have heard in addition an address or oration given by one of the superiors of the order at the grave. We regret to state that the clerical officials here have forbidden to allow this to take place, which was a source of considerable annoyance to a large number there assembled.
Ancestry shows the burial register for 12-May-1864 at Petersfield.
